A noisy laptop fan is annoying and often signals a bigger problem — overheating. Ignoring it can lead to CPU throttling, data loss, or permanent hardware damage.
Types of Fan NoiseWhirring (constant high speed): Fan is working overtime because vents are blocked or thermal paste is dried out.
Grinding/Rattling: Fan bearing is failing — replacement needed soon.
Clicking: Fan blade hitting something — could be debris or a warped blade.
1. Power off and unplug 2. Open back panel (check YouTube for your model) 3. Use compressed air to blow out dust from vents and fan blades 4. Hold fan in place while blowing (don't let it free-spin) 5. Clean dust between heatsink fins
Thermal Paste ReapplicationIf cleaning doesn't help, dried thermal paste between CPU/GPU and heatsink reduces heat transfer. Reapplying quality thermal paste (Arctic MX-6, Noctua NT-H2) can drop temperatures by 10–20°C.
Fan ReplacementAt Xigox, fan cleaning starts at ₹499 and fan replacement at ₹799–₹1,999. We also reapply thermal paste during every fan service. Turnaround: same day.
