How to Fix PC No Display — Blank Monitor
PC fans spin, lights come on, but the monitor stays blank? This is one of the most common desktop issues and usually has a simple fix.
Check the Obvious First
1. Is the monitor turned on? (Check power LED) 2. Correct input source? (HDMI vs DisplayPort vs VGA) 3. Try a different cable 4. Try a different monitor 5. Is the GPU power cable connected (6/8-pin from PSU)?
RAM Reset
Remove all RAM sticks, clean contacts with eraser, insert one stick at a time. Try different slots. Bad RAM is the #1 cause of "power on, no display" issues.
GPU Troubleshooting
1. Reseat the GPU — remove, clean PCIe contacts, reinsert firmly 2. Try onboard graphics (connect monitor to motherboard HDMI, remove GPU) 3. Test GPU in another PC if possible 4. Check for swollen capacitors on GPU board
CMOS Reset
Remove the CMOS battery (CR2032) for 2 minutes, then reinsert. This resets BIOS to defaults and can fix display output misconfigurations.
Professional Diagnosis
If none of the above works, it's likely a motherboard or CPU issue. At Xigox, we use POST cards and oscilloscopes for precise diagnosis. Fee: ₹350, adjusted against repair.
