How it's done

How We Perform Laptop & Computer Hinge Broken Repair

What our technicians do, what it requires, and how to tell you need it.

1 How It's Performed

For a repair job on this component, we check both hinges (even if only one feels loose) since uneven wear on one side often means the other is close behind, then replace the worn mechanism and verify the lid opens and closes smoothly through its full range without excess play.

Typical time: 45–60 minutes

2 What This Requires

  • A hinge mechanism matched to your exact chassis — hinge torque and mounting vary significantly even across different trims of the same model line.
  • Careful cable routing through the new hinge, since a pinched display cable here is one of the most common causes of a screen fault appearing right after a hinge job.

3 When You Need This

  • The screen feels loose, wobbly, or doesn't hold its angle on its own anymore.
  • You hear cracking or grinding sounds when opening or closing the lid.
  • Visible cracks in the plastic around the hinge area.

About the MacBook Pro

Best for: video/photo editing, software development, and sustained heavy workloads

The MacBook Pro is Apple's performance-oriented laptop, aimed at creative professionals, developers, and power users who need sustained CPU/GPU performance — active cooling, higher-refresh ProMotion displays on 14"/16" models, and more I/O than the Air.

Key features

  • Active fan cooling allows sustained high performance under video export, 3D rendering, and compilation workloads.
  • Soldered RAM/storage on Apple Silicon models — same upgrade limitation as the Air, more pronounced given the higher price point.
  • Liquid Retina XDR display on 14"/16" models — genuinely class-leading color accuracy and brightness for creative work.
  • Multiple Thunderbolt/USB-C ports plus, on larger models, HDMI and an SD card slot.
