Know your laptop before you book
The three brands sit in the same price band but are built quite differently, so the first useful step is to find the exact model name on the underside label.
Avita
Avita sells slim, light Windows laptops in India, with series such as Liber and Pura. Thin lids and narrow hinge areas mean the hinge mounts and the casing around them take the stress. Slim designs also tend to have little room for upgrades, so we confirm what the board allows before suggesting anything.
Chuwi
Chuwi laptops, including the HeroBook, GemiBook and CoreBook families, are mostly sold through online and import channels. That often means no local authorised service point, and warranty terms that depend on the seller. Some models carry a removable M.2 SSD, while others use soldered eMMC storage that can't be swapped. This difference changes what an upgrade can achieve.
iBall
iBall is an Indian brand known for entry-level laptops such as the CompBook range. These are simple, mostly plastic machines. The usual failures are power and board faults, plus cracked casings after drops, which sit squarely inside what we can repair.
What usually fails on budget laptops like these?
Power and board faults
Entry-level designs put the charging circuit, memory and processor on one tightly packed board. A laptop that shows no charging light, dies when you move the cable, or powers on with no display often has a board-level fault. Before paying for a board repair, we check the charger, the charging port and the memory, because a bad adapter or a loose RAM contact mimics a dead board.
For a board that has seen liquid or a power surge, the diagnosis comes first. If the damage is limited to the power section, it may well be repairable. If the processor or soldered storage has failed, we'll explain what that means for the cost before you commit.
Casing, lid and hinge damage
Plastic hinge posts crack when a lid is opened with one hand or a laptop is squashed in a bag. The result is a wobbling screen and a splitting base. We either rebuild the damaged mount or fit a fabricated panel. Don't wait: a loose hinge strains the display cable, and a damaged screen is one thing we can't replace on these brands. Memory and storage
Slow budget laptops respond well to more memory and a proper SSD, but only when the model has sockets. Task Manager (Performance, then Memory) shows "Row of chips" for soldered memory and "SODIMM" for a slot. For storage, open the Disk panel to see the exact drive model, then search it before buying anything. A soldered eMMC chip can't be replaced like an SSD.
Is a motherboard repair worth it on a budget laptop?
Often it is, but not always. A repair makes sense when the quote is a fraction of what an equivalent replacement would cost and the rest of the laptop is healthy. It makes less sense when the quote approaches the price of a similar refurbished machine, particularly if the screen, battery and keyboard are also worn and can't be replaced.
- Ask for the diagnosis in writing, including what failed and what's still good.
- Compare the quote with a similar certified refurbished laptop, which comes with its own warranty.
- Check the other parts. A repaired board in a laptop with a dead battery and cracked screen is a poor deal.
- Consider your data. If the board is beyond repair, the drive may still be recoverable.

What should you do if you need a screen, battery or keyboard?

If the warranty has ended, ask the brand's own service channel whether the part exists. Be wary of any shop that promises an exact part without confirming a part number. And if the laptop isn't worth another round of effort, consider a certified refurbished laptop instead. Xigox also buys old laptops, which can offset the cost.

Frequently asked questions
Do you repair Avita or iBall laptops that are still under warranty?
Use the manufacturer's warranty first, because outside repairs can affect it. We're a better option once the warranty has ended or when the fault isn't covered, such as accidental damage to the casing.
Can you upgrade the RAM or SSD in my Chuwi?
If the model has a slot, yes. Send the exact model name and we'll check. Soldered memory and eMMC storage can't be upgraded, and we'll say so plainly.
Why won't you replace my screen or battery?
Because the right part can't be bought reliably in India for these brands. Fitting a near-match often causes flicker, poor fit or battery warnings, so declining is the honest answer.
Is it worth repairing a very cheap laptop?
Sometimes. If the fault is a loose RAM contact, a power fault or a cracked casing, repair is usually sensible. If several parts are worn, compare the quote with a refurbished replacement.
