Regular cleaning keeps your laptop cool, hygienic and running well — but the wrong products can damage the screen or short the board. Here's how to do it safely.
Screen- Power off. Use a dry microfiber cloth first.
- For marks, lightly dampen the cloth (never spray the screen directly) with water or a 50/50 water–isopropyl mix.
- Never use household glass cleaner — ammonia strips screen coatings.
- Turn the laptop upside down and gently shake out crumbs.
- Use compressed air between the keys.
- Wipe surfaces with a slightly damp cloth — never let liquid seep under the keys.
- Blow compressed air through the vents in short bursts to clear surface dust.
- Hold the fan still with a toothpick while blowing so it doesn't over-spin.
Surface cleaning helps, but dust packed inside the heatsink needs the laptop opened — that's the dust that actually causes overheating. If your laptop runs hot or the fan is loud, a professional internal clean + fresh thermal paste is the real fix, and it's an affordable, same-day job.
