A laptop annual maintenance contract (AMC) is a one-year agreement that swaps surprise breakdown bills for scheduled upkeep, agreed response expectations and, depending on the type, parts cover. For a Mumbai business, its value comes mainly from less downtime and a predictable budget, not from cheaper repairs. The contract only pays off if its scope is written down clearly.

What does a laptop AMC actually cover?
Contracts fall into two broad types, and the difference is who pays for parts. A non-comprehensive AMC covers labour and scheduled service, with parts billed separately. A comprehensive AMC bundles parts in as well, usually with exclusions. Neither type is better in general; it depends on how old your laptops are and how hard they're used.

Is an AMC cheaper than paying for each repair?
Not automatically, and the honest way to check is arithmetic. Estimate what a typical year costs you at pay-per-repair rates, then compare it with the AMC quote for the same fleet. The example below uses indicative ranges from our price list. The repair counts are an illustration, not a forecast.

Add the low ends together and then the high ends. The first three rows come to roughly six thousand rupees at the low end and just over twenty thousand at the high end. Including the motherboard repair lifts that to about nine thousand rupees at the low end and just under thirty thousand at the high end.
If your AMC quote sits near the top of that band, paying per repair may be cheaper. If the quote is below the likely spend, or if each hour of downtime costs you more than the repair itself, the contract earns its place. Failures also cluster: a batch of laptops bought together often wears out together.
Which contract clauses matter most?
Price comparisons miss the clauses that decide whether an AMC works in practice. Check each of these before you sign, and ask for anything vague to be stated in numbers or plain words.
- Scope and asset list. Every covered laptop should be listed by brand, model and serial number.
- Response and resolution targets. Ask what's promised for first response and for fixing, and what happens if the target is missed.
- Parts policy. Clarify whether parts are genuine, how defective parts are handled and what counts as wear.
- Standby cover. Find out whether a loan laptop is provided while yours is being repaired.
- Exclusions. Liquid damage, accidental damage, theft and unlicensed software are the usual ones.

- Renewal and exit. Know the notice period and what happens to the asset list on termination.
How does an AMC work for hybrid and remote staff?
Many Mumbai firms now have people working from home or travelling for part of the week, so ask how a remote user's laptop reaches the technician. A contract that assumes everyone sits in one office can leave field staff without cover. Doorstep pickup and delivery matter here, because a laptop that's collected and returned the same week keeps the employee productive.
Also ask who the user contacts, how faults are logged and whether a loan laptop can be sent to a home address. Clear answers up front prevent a month of emails later.
What does preventive maintenance involve on a business laptop?
Preventive work is the quiet part of an AMC, and it's where most of the value comes from. Typical visits include dust and vent cleaning, a check on thermal paste where temperatures warrant it, a battery wear report, an SSD health check, Windows and driver updates, and a check that backups and antivirus are working.
The aim is to catch slow problems early: a swelling battery, a fan about to seize, a drive reporting reallocated sectors. How should a fleet plan for Windows 10 end of support?
An AMC inventory is the ideal moment to check which laptops can run Windows 11. Microsoft ended regular Windows 10 security updates for most users on 14 October 2025, so any machine that's still on Windows 10 for business use deserves a decision. Windows 11 needs a compatible 64-bit processor, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, UEFI with Secure Boot and TPM 2.0.
In practice the processor decides. Intel 8th generation or newer, and AMD Ryzen 2000 series or newer, generally qualify. A laptop that fails only because TPM or Secure Boot is off in the BIOS can often be fixed with a BIOS setting. - A device list: brand, model, age, specification and the user or department.
- Locations: where laptops are used and whether staff travel with them.
- Usage pattern: office, field, shared or heavy workloads.
- Known problems: laptops already failing, because pre-existing faults can be excluded.
